David's Famous Chocolate Chips

8 - 10 min.                         YIELD: Full: 10 dozen / Half: 5 dozen

Preheat oven to 375F ....................... Half Recipe:

Combine in medium Mixing Bowl:                             

·      4-1/2 cups flour............................................ 2-1/4 cup

·      2 tsp baking soda................................................ 1 tsp

·      2 tsp Salt.............................................................. 1 tsp

Beat together:

·      2-1/2 cups Butter, Softened =5 sticks.......... 1-1/4 cup

·      1-1/2 cup granulated sugar............................. 3/4 cup

·      1-1/2 cup brown sugar (dark or light).............. 3/4 cup

·      2 tsp Vanilla......................................................... 1 tsp

Combine both bowls and one at a time add

·      4 eggs............................................................... 2 eggs

Mix well together.

Add:

·      2 cups Nuts of your choice................................. 1 cup

·      3-1/2 cups chocolate chips.......................... 1-3/4 cup

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Drop by tablespoon about 1 inch apart

Bake for ONLY 8-10 minutes depending on oven. Cool slightly on tray before removing.

This should make 10 dozen cookies depending on size of each cookie.

Strange, Boug, Emme & Kaitlin got there Friday about 5:30 - headed out to dinner after unloading supplies at at a favorite Mexican Restaurant with Connie & Sami. (Vic had to work)
Back at the Ranch after dinner, we started on our refrigerator doughs and Strange did her Lime Fudge.
Headed to bed around Midnite to be ready for Saturday.
Saturday - did eggs, bacon and hash browns on the griddle - made the bacon for the bacon chip cookies.

Started baking and making new doughs.
Cari arrived with more supplies.
Throughout the day, various guest chef's arrived -
Vicki's friend Nikki -
Amy & Arli & Zana - Con's friend and her daughter & daughters friend.
Sami's friend Alli.
Family friend Alfie.

Most motivating was a tie between Sami / Kaitlin / Alfie.
Sami was totally up for this - kept us all cooking.
Kaitlin kept finding new and different recipes to try.
Alfie got there when we were all starting to tire & got us all going again.
Special Kudo's to the Anderson women - Con, Vic, Sami for the great job organizing and cleaning the house. Another successful year - lots of goodies and lots of fun.

Cookie Day 2019 Results re-post

Checking the blog, it turns out this was the 10 year anniversary for Cookie day at Connie's house.
2008 was last time we baked at Boug's

A total of thirteen people came and baked, making from 1 recipe to 9 different recipes

Friday - Con, Boug, Vic and Dom hit Lassen's for dinner, then back to make refrigerator doughs.
Samantha, Zack and Zander arrived around 10 and helped before bed around midnight to 1am.

Saturday:
Vic and I ran to get some last important supplies (parchment paper! and a box of Joe) got back made breakfast and started the ovens at 10am

Unfortunately, our favorite oven Elf Eric could not make it this year.

Ose arrived at 9:53 - followed closely by Cari around 10am.
Later - after Ose and Cari left, Sandi arrived (complete with cast on her left arm - amazing that you can still glove up over a cast!) and finally Marianne, Andrea and the twins - Sammy and Skylar.
Final Batch was pulled out of the oven around 1:30am on Sunday Morning.

Sunday - Con, Boug, Dom, Vic and Zander hit breakfast before cleaning up and putting the house back to order.
Cari, that over achiever, made another batch at home!! And I made a Shortbread, gluten free - almond flour - on Monday.

2013 Results - December 14

Held this year at Connie's palace. Last year with Lower Wacker Room (we think)
It was a less hectic pace than other years, but a wonderful fun turnout.

Friday Nite: Boug, Con, Sami and Vic - Worked on our refrigerator doughs after a great dinner at Cilantro.
We made five different and headed to bed around 1am.
Saturday: After our traditional breakfast of Bacon & Eggs (eek, do we have enough??) we pre-heated ovens around 10am and set to making more doughs.

Cari showed up with a car-load - Karlene (our awesome 'Hot Pan!' Runner - came complete with her own oven mitts. She also had her middle daughter Emme and Em's friend Angel.

Around 1pm just as we were getting ready for lunch - Kaffy and Ashley showed up - with some pre-made doughs by Chef Ashley.
Nikki, Vic's most reliable friend - popped in for her longest stretch and made some of her regulars and even invented a new one.
Finally, Con's buddy Bill stopped by - and even Aproned Up despite not baking.
We missed a couple of our regular chefs due to schedule conflicts; hopefully they'll be back next year! (Ose, Pixie, Deb)

Instead of getting together at Connie's house as we have for the last 10 years or so - we went virtual.

Date was chosen on a weekend Connie and Samantha were not working - unfortunately they were unable to attend.

Boug created a Facebook group for Cookie day  - Private - drop a line and we can send an invite - a few weeks in advance. Zoom would only give us a 40 minute or so window. FB allowed us to be on unlimited. I counted about 15 people stopping in and chatting or staying on with the camera pointed toward their cooking areas. 

Many others posted recipes, discussed ideas, shared links. 

Some baked cookies, others bread or candy, some just said hello!  It was early for many to do holiday baking. And many may not have an outlet for lots of baked items.  All in all - it was a sharing of a simple family tradition. Our own family holiday.

Friday night, I tested out the Room link and good thing too as I had to download a different browser. Vicki and I were doing various refrigerator recipes from our own homes.

I think the overall opinion was - there is something so helpful about working from your own kitchen - especially for those of us who love cooking. Us with small galley kitchens, well, we are used to them. Just made us use other rooms of the house. The virtual aspect helped a lot! Kept all of us feeling we were with others. Helped when we had questions - a shout out to other bakers always brought an answer of some sort. Being able to pop in and out - kept it lively.

Special shout out to Cari and her quiz questions! I did not know we needed to study for this - but we all learned some history. Heck - I didn't even realize 2017 was our biggest year ever at 44 varieties.
